GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Referee Trevor Hanson has left a game between the Buffalo Sabres and Phoenix Coyotes after being hit in the nose by a puck.

Hanson was in the corner late in the second period Thursday night, when a shot by Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson caromed off the crossbar and hit Hanson in the nose.

Hanson doubled over in pain and skated to Phoenix’s bench, where he was given a towel. Holding the towel to his face, Hanson was helped down the Coyotes tunnel to receive medical attention.

Hanson was back on the ice for the start of the third period.
