LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A new National Guard center is having its official opening this week in Lexington.

The Kentucky National Guard says U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Lexington Mayor Jim Gray and Kentucky Adjutant General Edward W. Tonini are expected for the ribbon-cutting at 2 p.m. EST Friday.

The 200,000-square-foot Consequence Management Support Center is intended to provide logistical support to 111 specialized National Guard homeland defense units across the U.S. The guard says the center is capable of providing logistical and maintenance support around the clock.

The center will employ 66 people from central Kentucky.
