First lady Michelle Obama certainly isn’t shy about what she wants political supporters to do in the lead-up to the 2014 elections: Write some checks, and send them quick.
“There is something all of you can do right now, today, to make a difference,” she said, to Democratic donors in Los Angeles, The Hill reported. “You can write a check, do you hear me? I’m serious. Write a big, fat check. Write the biggest check you can possibly write.”
She said supporters need to be as “passionate” and “hungry” for political gain as they were in previous election cycles, The Hill reported. At stake is Democratic control of the House, where the party needs 17 seats to seize power, she said. She also referenced the slim six-seat majority Democrats hold in the Senate, and poked at fear to drum up a rally cry.
“What I want all of you to think about for just a minute is what could happen if we lose those six seats,” she said, referencing the fate of Obamacare and same-sex marriage. She also spoke of the need to stand strong in the 37 governors’ races.
“It’s simply not enough to elect Barack Obama president if we don’t also elect leaders in Congress and in our state houses who will work with him to keep making the change we all believe in,” she said, The Hill reported.
