ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Strong and damaging wind gusts are forecast for Thursday across much of New Mexico.

The National Weather Service says gusts up to 75 mph are expected in areas from the central mountain chain eastward into adjacent highlands and plains on Thursday and Thursday night.

Meanwhile, wind gusts up to 50 mph are forecast for parts of western New Mexico.

The Weather Service says fire conditions will be critical in the lower Rio Grande Valley and much of the eastern plains.

Rain and snow is forecast for high terrain in far northern New Mexico late Thursday and through Thursday night.
