CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Conservative businessman Andrew Hemingway will run for New Hampshire governor against Democratic incumbent Maggie Hassan.
His campaign manager, Alicia (ah-LISH’-ah) Preston, says the 31-year-old Hemingway was ready to formally announce his candidacy Thursday evening at a “Solutions First” rally. He’s expected to file paperwork organizing his campaign committee on Friday.
Hemingway becomes the first candidate to publicly announce a challenge to the first-term governor.
Hemingway is the former chairman of the Republican Liberty Caucus of New Hampshire and served as state director for Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign ahead of the 2012 primary. He is the founder of the Bristol-based high-tech company Digital Acumen.
Hassan spokesman Marc Goldberg didn’t directly address Hemingway’s candidacy but says the governor will continue to work to strengthen the economy and support middle class families.
