LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) - Biotechnology company Amgen Inc. says it will lay off 200 workers at its facilities in Longmont and Boulder, effective April 30.
Company spokeswoman Peggy Krause tells the Longmont Times-Call (https://bit.ly/1aLmA8l ) that the layoffs stem from the California-based company discontinuing the manufacture of the drug Epogen.
Epogen is used to stimulate red blood cells in patients suffering from chronic kidney disease and cancer and is manufactured in Colorado.
Krause noted that Amgen will still employ about 430 workers at its Longmont and Boulder facilities.
Krause said employees were notified of the cuts Thursday and are being offered severance packages that include cash, health insurance and career transition services.
The company announced more than a year ago that it planned to cut its Colorado workforce but didn’t release specifics.
