Dr. Ben Carson will be a featured speaker at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in March, joining other confirmed guests such as Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Marco Rubio of Florida at the annual gathering of grassroots conservatives.
Earlier this year, Mr. Carson’s weekly opinion column in The Washington Times became syndicated nationwide with Creators Syndicate.
“Dr. Carson is a gifted surgeon and leading conservative voice, and we are excited to have him at CPAC 2014,” said Al Cardenas, who chairs the American Conservative Union.
Part of CPAC will be devoted to celebrating the ACU’s 50th anniversary. The three-day gathering will take place on March 6-8 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center at the National Harbor in Maryland.
“This will be the year that conservatives begin pulling the nation back from the brink of Barack Obama’s disaster with a movement that inspires, unites and discovers new solutions to our current challenges,” Mr. Cardenas said.
Dr. Carson — an emeritus professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery and pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine — has been writing for The Washington Times since July 2013, and has emerged as one of the more prominent critics of President Obama’s health care law.
He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush in 2008 and has also authored more than 100 neurosurgical publications.
Other confirmed speakers at the event include former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has been invited.
