Not a lot of women can claim to be an Air Force officer by day and a cheerleader for a Super Bowl contender by night, but 1st Lt. Alicia Quaco can.
Lt. Quaco, who manages aircraft production for the Air Force after graduating from the Academy in 2010, moonlights a cheerleader for the Seattle Seahawks. She said it took some time to convince the military brass to grant her permission, but her efforts have paid off.
“It’s a lot of costume changes. I don’t get to wear normal clothes very often. And I have hardly any free time,” she told the New York Post. “I told them it’s good for recruitment. It shows that the Air Force is well-rounded, that we can do other things, too. It’s great for women recruits to know that.”
Lt. Quaco told the Post that working for the military has honed her ability to work with others, something that being part of the 32-member squad of “Sea Gals” demands.
On her Facebook page, she said both jobs require “a lot of standing in lines and doing the same thing as the person next you, working in unison as a team.”
The Seahawks face the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII on Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J.
