MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The state indoor track championships have been postponed because of the winter storm.
The Alabama High School Athletic Association said Thursday that the championships will be pushed back to Monday and Tuesday at the Birmingham CrossPlex. Gov. Robert Bentley extended the state of emergency for school systems still affected by this week’s weather.
The original event schedule will be in place. Competition will begin Monday at 10 a.m. and Tuesday at 9 a.m.
AHSAA Executive Director Steve Savarese says many of the school systems will still be closed Friday. He says “travel and safety are of the utmost concern” and that they don’t want to exclude any athletes from competing.
The event had initially been set to remain on Friday and Saturday with later start times.
