FORMER GOV. CRIST LEADS GOV SCOTT IN POLL

Former Gov. Charlie Crist is leading Republican Gov. Rick Scott by 8 points in a poll released Thursday. The poll by Quinnipiac University also found that 54 percent do not think Scott deserves a second term as governor and that 41 percent approve of the job he’s doing.

NEW CHIEF JUSTICE NAMED TO STATE SUPREME COURT

Justice Jorge Labarga will be the Florida Supreme Court’s next leader. The seven-member court on Wednesday elected 61-year-old Labarga to a two-year term beginning July 1. He will succeed Chief Justice Ricky Polston who will remain on the bench.

TEMPERATURES RISE, PANHANDLE THAWS

Temperatures are on the rise in the Florida Panhandle, melting the layer of ice and snow that fell earlier this week. Some bridges around Pensacola were set to reopen on Thursday.

1 SHOT, WOUNDED AT EASTERN FLORIDA STATE COLLEGE

Official say a man was shot and critically wounded at the Palm Bay Campus of Eastern Florida State College. Palm Bay police report that two men were beating up on another man Thursday afternoon. The man being attacked retreated to his vehicle, where he grabbed a gun and shot one of his attackers in the chest. Police responded and contained the scene.

MAN JUMPS TO HIS DEATH FROM I-95 OVERPASS

Troopers say a man who was involved in a three-car crash near Daytona Beach jumped to his death onto the highway’s shoulder a short time later.
