CHICAGO (AP) - The city of Chicago has used about three-quarters of its snow removal budget so far this winter.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports (https://bit.ly/LnIO4w ) the city has only $5 million remaining of its $20.5 million budget for snow removal.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says the city will continue to keep roads “paved and plowed and passable.” And he says the city will also have enough road salt. The newspaper reports he didn’t elaborate on where the additional money would come from once the $5 million is spent.
The newspaper reports the city’s snow budget covers the remainder of this year’s winter and the start of next.
Through Jan. 26, the National Weather Service says Chicago has received 33.1 inches of snow. That makes it the city’s fourth-snowiest month in city history.
