WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) - Authorities in northeastern Pennsylvania say a suspect in the strangulation death of a woman in 2012 has been apprehended in Mexico by agents with the U.S. Marshals Service.

Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis said Wednesday that authorities have been looking for 36-year-old Oscar Lozano Garcia since December 2012, when they discovered the body of 32-year-old Maria Brea in the Hazleton apartment she shared with him.

In early 2013 Garcia was charged with an open count of criminal homicide.

Prosecutors say Garcia, a Mexican national, fled to Mexico after police discovered his ex-girlfriend’s body sealed in plastic in the locked attic of her apartment.

Salavantis said Garcia was arrested Monday in Puebla, Mexico, and is being held at a prison in Mexico City pending extradition.
