LAS VEGAS (AP) - Neal Smatresk will see his salary jump when he leaves his job as president of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for the University of North Texas.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1byfkav) Smatresk’s base salary at the Dallas-area school will be $505,000 a year.

His base salary at UNLV was about $246,000, although his total compensation package added up to about $447,000, including a salary bonus, housing allowance and car allowance.

The new contract in Texas also includes the option of a bonus based on Smatresk’s performance. That may not exceed 25 percent of his base salary.

Smatresk begins his new job Monday.

His replacement is Don Snyder, who has led an effort to build an arena at the campus. Snyder will serve while UNLV seeks a permanent replacement.
