SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union over Utah’s resistance to gay marriage has been moved from state to federal court.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1ibYuDf) the Utah Attorney General’s Office steered the case to the new venue Tuesday because it deals with civil rights.
The ACLU of Utah says it’s happy to continue the fight in any forum.
The group says Utah’s refusal to grant same-sex couples common marriage benefits has created wrenching uncertainty.
The ACLU is suing on behalf of four gay couples who rushed to obtain a marriage license after a federal judge in Utah overturned the state’s same-sex marriage ban on Dec. 20.
Utah has appealed that ruling to the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
