“Good Luck Charlie,” the comedy Disney Channel production that targets the most youthful of U.S. society, made television production history with the filming of a two-part series finale — due to air around Valentine’s Day — that showcases lesbian partners Susan and Cheryl.
“Taylor has two moms,” the character of Bob says to his wife, Amy, after meeting the two women, Hollywood Life reported.
Wife Amy then responds: “Wow, nothing gets past you, Bob.”
The Disney Channel has taken a major step with the production, which is the first time the network has openly featured any gay character — never mind a gay couple, Hollywood Life reported.
The casting for the show took place seven months ago, when a spokesperson for the Disney Channel announced: “This particular storyline was developed under the consultancy of child development experts and community advisors. Like all Disney Channel programming, it was developed to be relevant to kids and families around the world and to reflect themes of diversity and inclusiveness.”
The show is set to air Feb. 16.
