SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Illinois Senate President John Cullerton says Gov. Pat Quinn’s State of the State address was a “strong message on the progress of our state.”
The Chicago Democrat says the Chicago city pension debt should be a “principle challenge” of the coming session.
Cullerton says he looks forward to working with Quinn on that and other problems with fair policies that balance the needs of business and labor.
In addition to the Chicago pension problem, Cullerton mentioned job creation and the state’s fiscal outlook as well as the governor’s proposal to raise the minimum wage.
Quinn wants to raise the minimum wage from $8.25 to $10 an hour.
