CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A Carson City man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for killing another man on Super Bowl Sunday last year.
Thirty-three year-old David Grimes must serve four years before he is eligible for parole under the sentence handed down Tuesday.
Grimes was convicted of voluntary manslaughter for the Feb. 3, 2013 shooting death of James Lay.
According Assistant District Attorney Mark Krueger, Grimes took a gun with him when dropping off his son, who was also Lay’s stepson.
Grimes and Lay got into a fight. Lay was shot when they resumed their altercation outside the home and died at the scene.
Deputies arrested Grimes early the next day. According to police report, he was extremely intoxicated on Super Bowl Sunday when he took his son to Lay’s home.
