MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A summary of action in the Alabama Legislature on Tuesday, the seventh meeting day of the regular session:
HOUSE:
-Could not meet because not enough members could get over icy roads to Montgomery.
SENATE:
-Gave final approval to a bill moving up when Democratic and Republican candidates must sign up to run for office, which will allow absentee ballots to be issued sooner to military and other Alabama voters overseas. Goes to governor.
-Approved a bill to require circuit clerks’ offices to take debit and credit cards. Goes to House.
-Passed a bill saying private schools are not regulated by the state Department of Education but are required to comply with school attendance and child safety laws. Goes to House.
-Passed a bill saying that Alabama military don’t have to pay late fees for renewing car tags if they were deployed elsewhere when their tag expired and they renew the tag within 30 days of returning to the state. Goes to House.
