CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine (AP) - The Special Olympics Maine Winter Games are wrapping up at Sugarloaf.

Nearly 500 athletes have participated in the event that concludes Tuesday.

Events began on Sunday and the opening ceremony featuring two-time Olympic gold medalist Seth Wescott and parade of athletes were both held Monday. Events included cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, snowshoe and speed skating.

Other events at the 45th winter games included a torchlight parade, fireworks and a dance. Special Olympics Maine held the first-ever winter event in 1969.
