JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi lawmakers are getting a snow day, of sorts.

Members of House and Senate are leaving the Capitol early on Tuesday and returning late on Wednesday.

Several committee meetings were held Tuesday, even as snow coated the Capitol grounds in downtown Jackson.

House Speaker Philip Gunn says leaders want to give lawmakers the chance to drive home safely. Many remain in Jackson during the work week, but some are planning to use the one-day break to drive home and back.
