JOHNS CREEK, Ga. (AP) - Police in suburban Atlanta, who have been searching for a gunman who fired a rifle shot into a home, now have a suspect in custody.

Police in Hoover, Ala., arrested 31-year-old James Jones of Vestavia Hills, Ala., during a traffic stop Sunday.

Jones was being held on charges that include aggravated assault, stalking, making terroristic threats and discharging a firearm near a city street after Thursday’s shooting in the Atlanta suburb of Johns Creek.

Johns Creek police Lt. Chris Byers has said the bullet could have gone into a bedroom, where two children were sleeping.

Police said the woman who lives there is a former professor at an Alabama college. Jones, a former student, is accused of stalking her for the past decade.

It wasn’t known early Tuesday whether Jones has an attorney.
