WASHINGTON (AP) - Viewers watching on television as politicians and guests arrived for the State of the Union address may have been wondering: What happened to Jill Biden’s arm?

The wife of Vice President Joe Biden arrived in the House chamber Tuesday night sporting a camouflage-patterned cast draped in a purple scarf. It was the first time she’d been spotted in public wearing the cast.

The vice president’s office says the second lady broke her left wrist last week after slipping and falling. She’s expecting to be wearing a cast for about six weeks.

Biden’s office says the icy weather blanketing much of the U.S. wasn’t the culprit in the fall.

In addition to her duties as second lady, Biden teaches at a community college. She’s also an advocate for military families.
