CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - FBI investigators are scoping out the inside of the Charleston tank whose chemical leak rendered drinking water unsafe for days.

U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin said the FBI officials have been inspecting and documenting the Freedom Industries facility since Tuesday morning. Fifteen to 20 agents from the FBI and the Environmental Protection Agency are on site to collect evidence from the Jan. 9 spill.

Goodwin said the teams are checking the tank that sustained a 1-inch hole, causing the spill that eventually went into the Elk River and contaminated the water supply for 300,000 people. They are also evaluating two adjacent tanks and the last-resort containment wall.

Goodwin said the team hoped to finish its work by Wednesday morning.
