SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Spokane residents who are offended by bikini baristas will have to collect signatures on petitions to make the coffee servers cover up.

The Spokane City Council voted Monday to reject a request to place the initiative directly on the ballot.

The Spokesman-Review reports (https://bit.ly/1cpEzzV) the initiative will need nearly 2,500 signatures to qualify for the November 2015 ballot or more than 7,000 for an earlier vote.

Three Spokane moms say they will gather the signatures in hopes that voters make over-exposure a misdemeanor.

The council rejected nudity restriction proposed in October. The current initiative is based on nudity prohibitions approved in November by the city council in neighboring Spokane Valley.
