NEW ORLEANS (AP) - State police in central Louisiana say icy roads caused 20 weather-related wrecks between 6 and 8 a.m. Tuesday. But the rest of the state was fairly quiet.

In Alexandria, Trooper Scott Moreau says roads in Troop E are worse than they were on Friday, because they’re getting more ice than snow. He says, “Even 5 to 10 miles an hour is a little fast for these roadway conditions.”

But he says most people seem to be heeding advice to stay home.

State police in other areas report at most a couple of crashes due to the weather.

Ice closed several highways, including Interstate 49 near Alexandria and in Lafayette, and Interstate 10 via the Atchafalaya Basin bridge, and I-210 in Lake Charles.
