PITTSBORO, N.C. (AP) - A Sanford lawyer says he’ll work for a higher minimum wage, improved health care access and increased public education spending as a new member of the North Carolina House.
A panel of Chatham and Lee county Democrats agreed to nominate Robert Reives (reeves) II to serve out the term of former Rep. Deb McManus, who resigned last month after authorities charged her with tax-related embezzlement at her husband’s medical practice.
Gov. Pat McCrory is obligated by state law to appoint Reives, who was chosen late last week by Democrats in the 54th House District.
Reives will serve through the end of the year, but he says he intends to seek an additional two-year term this fall. Two other Democrats sought to serve as McManus’ replacement.
