CHICAGO (AP) - For Midwestern journalists assigned to cover the latest cold temperatures, there’s no such thing as too many layers.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports (https://bit.ly/1dIMtA6 ) television journalists who endure live shots in arctic-type weather have a finely honed strategy for keeping the elements at bay.
Diane Pathieu (PATH’-yoo) is a reporter with WLS-TV in Chicago. Her secret? Battery-operated socks, which she pairs with hunting socks, thermal underwear, a sweater, a shirt, a fleece and parka, pocket warmers and heat-generating gloves.
WGN-TV’s Nancy Loo swears by her “ninja suit,” a one-piece, full-body set of long underwear worn by skiers and snowboarders. On top of that she adds several sweaters, snow pants and a parka along with toe warmers.
Others use military-grade gear, which they wear beneath more presentable on-air options.
