JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey’s second-largest city is getting $6.9 million from Washington to retain or hire 49 firefighters.
Jersey City will use the money to hire 25 new firefighters and replace or retain 24 who retired or were facing elimination due to budget cuts.
U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey, who helped secure the funding, tells The Jersey Journal (https://bit.ly/1ckXLP8 ) the money will maintain safe working conditions, create jobs and protect the community.
