GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy who was killed when an SUV hit his motorcycle head-on.

The sheriff’s office identified the deputy Monday as Sgt. David Baldwin, a 27-year veteran of the department.

The Colorado State Patrol, which is investigating the crash, says the driver of the SUV was trying to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone on Highway 93 near West 64th Parkway just after 10 a.m. Sunday and hit Baldwin’s motorcycle.

The driver of the SUV, 83-year-old Kenneth Hosch of Golden, was hospitalized with minor injuries. Investigators say charges are pending, but they don’t believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Baldwin was on duty and wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
