Comedian Dan Aykroyd, known as much for as his “Blues Brothers” character as his “Ghostbusters” role, has turned in his Hollywood walk of fame for a position with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department in Mississippi.
He swore in just recently as the county’s newest reserve deputy, The New York Daily News reported.
The law enforcement position isn’t so odd; Mr. Aykroyd served on two police agencies in Louisiana before he made it big in Hollywood. But it is notable if nothing else for the fact that Mr. Aykroyd is a bit older than other deputies — he’s 61.
“It’s an honor to join these ranks today,” Mr. Aykroyd said to Hinds County Sheriff Tyrone Lewis, according to The Clarion Ledger. “I understand the challenges that law enforcement face in today’s world.”
Mr. Lewis, for his part, praised Mr. Aykroyd for his service.
“He’s very qualified,” he said, The Clarion Ledger reported. “He can hit the ground running, and he has credentials and has put in a letter of request.”
Mr. Aykroyd, meanwhile, is currently filming “Get On Up” in the region, a movie in which he plays James Brown’s manager.
