HELENA, Mont. (AP) - U.S. Rep. Steve Daines’ campaign reports the Republican raised more than $1 million in the final three months of 2013.

Daines is running for the U.S. Senate seat that Democrat Max Baucus is vacating.

Daines’ campaign reported Monday the freshman congressman raised $837,773 from individuals and political committees, and another $198,580 from joint fundraisers with other candidates.

The campaign spent $273,985 in the fourth quarter of 2013 and had $1.9 million cash on hand as the election year got under way.

The report is his first since he announced his candidacy in November.

Daines is the early frontrunner for the Republican nomination.

Democrats running for the race include Lt. Gov. John Walsh, former Lt. Gov. John Bohlinger and newcomer Dirk Adams of Wilsall.
