DAKAR, Senegal (AP) - Renowned Senegalese musician Youssou Ndour plans to release a song calling for peace in Central African Republic, teaming up with a Christian singer from the battle-scarred country to convey a message of religious harmony.

A statement released over the weekend said Ndour, a Muslim, and Lydie Natacha, alias Idylle Mamba, began working on the song after Natacha arrived in Dakar on Friday.

The Grammy-winning Ndour formerly served as tourism minister and is currently a presidential adviser in Senegal.

Central African Republic has been in turmoil since a rebel coalition led by Michel Djotodia overthrew the president in March 2013. The violence since then has largely pitted Christians against Muslims, killing more than 1,000 people in December alone and forcing nearly 1 million people to flee their homes.
