CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Grand Teton officials say the national park had a strong year in 2013, despite a partial federal government shutdown and stagnating budgets.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1hBbfq9 ) the park saw 4.1 million visitors compared to 3.9 million in 2012. The park saw 63,838 fewer people in October, the same month it was forced to close for 16 days because of the government shutdown.
Park spokeswoman Jackie Skaggs says “the fact that we were shut down in a relatively popular month was encouraging and pleasantly surprising to be up by that much.”
Park officials attribute the increased visitation to an improving economy and heightened consumer confidence.
