PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say one person has died and another is in critical condition after their car collided with another in northwest Phoenix.
Sgt. Trent Crump says the driver of a Nissan Altima failed to stop for a red light around 9:45 p.m. Saturday while going east on Cactus Road at 43rd Avenue.
Crump says the Nissan crashed into a Kia Optima, which was following a green traffic signal.
Police say the driver and the female passenger in the Nissan were taken to area hospitals.
Police say the passenger was declared dead and the driver suffered life-threatening injuries. Neither was wearing a seatbelt and no airbags deployed.
The driver of the Kia was treated and released with minor injuries.
Police say that driver showed no signs of impairment.
