ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The New York State Conservative Party is holding its annual conference in Albany.

The event is being held just days after Gov. Andrew Cuomo irritated some on the right by saying that “extreme conservatives” who are “right-to-life, pro-assault weapon,” and “anti-gay” are damaging the Republican Party and “have no place in the state of New York.”

Buffalo businessman Carl Paladino will speak the party on Sunday. Paladino ran for governor on the Republican and Conservative lines in 2010. He has said he would consider another run as a Conservative if the Republican candidate does not call for change in the state Republican party.

Republican Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino will speak to the group on Monday. Astorino is considering a challenge to Cuomo.
