PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Sean McGonagill made seven 3-pointers on his way to 29 points and Brown avenged a loss in its previous game by defeating Yale 73-56 on Saturday.

McGonagill, the Ivy League’s leading scorer, came in ranked seventh nationally with a per-game average of 3.53 3-pointers. Saturday he made 7 of 9 3-point attempts as the Bears (9-7, 1-1) earned a split of the season series by shooting 54 percent. The Bulldogs (7-9, 1-1) beat the Bears a week ago in New Haven, Conn., 74-67.

McGonagill’s 7 3-pointers gave the senior 216 for his career, moving him past Brian Lloyd for second on Brown’s all-time list. He is 16 shy of tying leader Damon Huffman.

Justin Sears led Yale with 17 points. Yale failed to take full advantage at the free-throw line, hitting only 19 of 38. The Bulldogs shot 18 more free throws than Brown.
