DETROIT (AP) - A 23-year-old man has been arraigned on torture and attempted rape charges following an attack on a Detroit woman whose feet were burned with a blowtorch.

Detroit police say Roderick Neely was arraigned Saturday and ordered held without bond pending his next court date.

Neely also is charged with assault with intent to maim and unlawful imprisonment.

The woman told police she was forced at gunpoint into a car as she walked near a gas station Wednesday. She said her attacker beat her, pulled off her clothing and put the blowtorch to her feet.

She escaped by stabbing him in the eye with a screwdriver.

Deputy Police Chief Rodney Johnson says Neely also is suspected in two similar attacks last year.
