LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) - Lake Placid’s Olympic flame will burn again in celebration of the Sochi Winter Games.
The lighting of the cauldron is Friday, Feb. 7, and the public is encouraged to attend the ceremony. Following the 6 p.m. lighting, Olympians and other runners are invited to join a torch run on a route from the cauldron at the North Elba Horse Show Grounds to Main Street.
The procession will end at Mid’s Park, where a smaller, portable Empire State Winter Games cauldron will be lit. That flame will continue to burn throughout the Empire State Winter Games and the competition at Sochi.
Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and again in 1980, when speedskater Eric Heiden and the U.S. hockey team stole the show.
