LONDON (AP) - Italian midfielder Antonio Nocerino has left AC Milan to join Premier League struggler West Ham on loan as he looks to revive his chances of playing in the World Cup this summer.
The 28-year-old Nocerino will be at Upton Park until the rest of the season after losing his regular first-team place at Milan, which he joined in 2011 from Palermo.
West Ham confirmed the signing on Saturday.
Nocerino played at the European Championship in 2012, but made the last of his 15 appearances for Italy in September that year and hasn’t been called up since February 2013.
His signing is a real coup for West Ham manager Sam Allardyce, whose injury-plagued team is in the relegation zone in the Premier League.
