ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia Tech suddenly has an opening on its 2014 football schedule after Tulane canceled a four-game series with the Yellow Jackets.

The teams were scheduled to meet on Sept. 6 in the projected opening of Tulane’s new campus stadium in New Orleans.

But Georgia Tech announced Friday that Yulman Stadium may not be completed on time, and the schools couldn’t agree on a later date to hold the game. Therefore, Tulane exercised a clause to cancel the entire deal, which also included games in 2015, 2018 and 2019.

Georgia Tech senior associate athletic director Ryan Bamford says the school is “extremely disappointed” but already in discussions on a possible replacement. An announcement could be made as early as next week.

The Yellow Jackets open the season Aug. 30 against Wofford.
