COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The state auditor says he’s ready to release results of an investigation into manipulation of attendance data in Ohio’s largest school district.
Auditor Dave Yost has scheduled a news conference for Tuesday on findings involving the Columbus city schools.
District employees have been accused of altering attendance records for struggling students to improve performance ratings, which can be used to determine government funding and employee bonuses. The practice is called scrubbing.
The investigation in Columbus has been joined by federal authorities.
It has been handled separately from a broader review Yost conducted last year that identified more than 70 Ohio schools or districts that made attendance reporting errors and a handful that scrubbed.
The Columbus schools have introduced a hotline for workers who want to anonymously report wrongdoing.
