NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) - A Republican home renovation contractor says he will try to unseat Democratic Rhode Island Congressman James Langevin (LAN’-jih-vin) in the November election.
Political newcomer Rhue Reis of North Kingstown announced his candidacy Thursday, saying a fresh voice is needed in a Congress he says is run by professional politicians disconnected from the real world.
Reis opposes the federal Affordable Care Act and wants to curb federal spending, improve economic conditions and create jobs. He says he’s also a strong supporter of gun rights.
Reis and his wife, Barbara, have two adult daughters. He is a licensed Rhode Island contractor who renovates home for resale in South County. He also works at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut.
Langevin has represented Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District since 2001.
