LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP) - A Lawrence woman accused of causing her son’s pregnant girlfriend to miscarry by kicking her in the stomach is being held on $35,000 bail.

Maria Feliciano, 40, was arraigned this week on a charge of felonious assault and battery on a pregnant woman.

The woman, who was three months pregnant, told police that Feliciano assaulted her Jan. 5, but didn’t go to police until Jan. 17, according to The Eagle-Tribune (https://bit.ly/1cae4hJ ).

The accuser told police that Feliciano grabbed her by the hair during an argument, pulled her head down and kicked her about four times in the stomach while wearing boots. Feliciano allegedly told the woman “that her son will not marry her,” according to police.

The younger woman, concerned about pain and increased bleeding the following day, went to the hospital where she was informed of the miscarriage. She required additional medical treatment on two other occasions, including the day she went to police.

Feliciano, who is a native of Ecuador and in the U.S. illegally according to court papers, told police that there was an argument and she pulled the other woman’s hair, but denied kicking her.

Feliciano is due back in court Feb. 19.
