CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan is recommending that lawmakers pass a bill to address pay equity between men and women.
She says well over half of the women in New Hampshire are either the primary or co-breadwinners in their families. Yet on average, they earn 77 cents on the dollar compared to men in comparable jobs.
Hassan on Thursday submitted a letter to the Senate Commerce Committee in support of the Paycheck Fairness Act, which she says updates state law to eliminate loopholes, increase transparency in wages and ensure that all workers have the appropriate resources to help them earn a fair and equal paycheck.
The bill is sponsored by Democratic Sen. Sylvia Larsen of Concord. The Concord Monitor reports some committee members questioned whether there’s a need for it.
