A woman who lives outside of Detroit says she was outraged after staffers told her 8-year-old son he couldn’t read his Bible during free time — but then gave her daughter a worksheet that made what she thought were inappropriate claims about parents who drink wine.
Jessica Cross of Dearborn Heights said her son, Jason, used to take his Bible to class and pull it out during free time, Fox News reported. She said her son — who’s autistic — was just told that the Bible is “only for church, not school,” and ordered to leave it at home.
Meanwhile, Ms. Cross said her 6-year-old daughter came home with a worksheet that read: “My dad drinks wine. He puts a lime in his wine. It makes my mom smile,” Fox News said. Ms. Cross said to the news outlet she discovered the worksheet after her daughter asked her, “Mommy, why would a daddy drinking wine make a mommy happy?”
Ms. Cross said she’s irked that the school would ban something that promotes good morals and at the same time distribute something that promotes questionable morals. The school superintendent has since apologized and clarified policy, MyFoxDetroit.com reported.
“If a child wants to bring a Bible to school, they may,” the superintendent said, the outlet reported.
