PORTO, Portugal (AP) - The president of Colombia will visit Radamel Falcao, the South American country’s main hope for the World Cup, after he undergoes surgery on Saturday in a Portuguese hospital on torn left knee ligaments.

President Juan Manuel Santos says he will visit the striker in Porto on his way back from Switzerland to see firsthand how his operation went.

Santos says in a statement “we are going to visit him after his surgery to wish him, in the name of all Colombians, a speedy recovery.”

Falcao injured his leg playing for club Monaco on Wednesday.

Similar injuries usually sideline players for around six months. Colombia has its first match of the World Cup in Brazil on June 14.
