Five were killed and another 70 or so injured in three separate bomb attacks that rocked the capital city of Egypt, Cairo, in what seemed to be a target on police.
BBC reported the first bomb exploded in a car that was parked outside police headquarters, leaving four dead and 51 injured. Just a couple hours later, two more bombs went off at other spots in the city, killing another one and hurting 15.
The attacks took place on the third anniversary of the Arab Spring. In Egypt, the upheaval that started in 2011 was to oust long-time ruler Hosni Mubarak from office.
At least one of the most recent attacks were conducted at the hands of a group tied to al Qaeda, Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, or “Champions of Jerusalem,” BBC reported. The group admitted responsibility for the bombing at the police headquarters.
