CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell slightly to 5.9 percent in December.
WorkForce West Virginia says the number of unemployed residents fell by 1,300. For the year, total state unemployment was down 13,500.
In the goods-producing sector, employment gains were seen in mining and logging, while the state experienced job losses in manufacturing and construction.
In the service-providing sector, employment gains were seen in trade, transportation, utilities and financial activities. There were declines in professional and business services, leisure and hospitality, educational and health services, and government.
The national unemployment rate fell to 6.7 percent in December from 7 percent in November.
