LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - A University of Wyoming conservation work program is still alive.
UW had announced in December that the Wyoming Conservation Corps program had been suspended because of financial problems.
But on Thursday, UW announced a scaled down version of the program will be available this year thanks to money found within the university.
The conservation program pays students to perform conservation work around the state during the summer. Founded in 2006, the program has completed more than 200 conservation projects.
In recent years, it has been supported by state and federal funding as well as some corporate and nonprofit organizations. But state and federal funding has run out or been reduced.
Program director Patrick Call says work is being done to make the program self-sustaining in the future.
