HOUSTON (AP) - Forecasters issued cold weather-related advisories Thursday with parts of Central and Southeast Texas facing possible ice and snow before the weekend.
A winter storm warning for the Houston area was effective from Thursday night to Friday morning, the National Weather Service said. There’s a chance of rain turning to sleet and snow by Friday with little or no accumulations, but it could affect travel, said Scott Overpeck, a forecaster in the Houston NWS office.
Highs are expected in the mid-30s Friday in Houston before warming to the 60s on Saturday.
A winter weather advisory for the Austin and San Antonio areas runs from Thursday night to midday Friday with a chance of light freezing rain and snow before temperatures rise, forecasters said. Highs in the 70s are expected Saturday in Austin.
The Dallas-Fort Worth area faced less-wintry weather, with cloudy conditions Thursday night and a chance of flurries by Friday morning, then sunny and warming to the 40s, the NWS said.
Wind chill advisories issued for Friday include chances for rain in Corpus Christi and Brownsville, with warmer temperatures by Saturday, the National Weather Service said.
